It is with great sadness we report on the loss of our friend Lee Behel. Lee was killed this afternoon in an accident in the GP-5 during a qualifying race at Reno. Lee was an “Elder Statesmen” of the AVC, having participated along with his son Jay in 15 AVC Races, starting with their first race in 2000.
It is too early to speculate on the cause of the accident, which is under investigation. Lee was a multiple World Record Holder, and an extremely experienced and talented aviator. His enthusiasm was contagious, and he will be missed by all who knew him.
We will pass along details on Lee’s memorial service as soon as they become available.
Eric
Addendum:
Memorial Service will be in Lee’s Hangar at Pine Mountain Lake Airport in Groveland, CA. It will be on October 31 from 11:00 to 3:00. Lee’s son jay has asked us to pass on the invitation to all AirVenture Cup participants.
